Start Date: Jul. 13, 2013 End Date: Jul. 13, 2013 Time: 11:00 AM
Come away to Downton Abbey, the theme this year for the New Oxford Area Historical Society’s fourth annual “An Afternoon Tea, Steeped in History.” This fundraiser will be held at the First Lutheran Church, 200 Lincoln Way E, in New Oxford, PA.
There will be two seatings – the first at 11:00 and the second at 2:00. Served on antique china, the delicious four course tea is sure to satisfy your appetite as well as your taste for history. At 1:15pm, Judy Larkin, known as the Tea Lady, dressed as a parlor maid with her best cap and starched apron, will show, and not just tell, why tea was an integral part of life for the working class. In her program, Tea with the Parlor Maid, she will explain how even though the parlor maids may not have enjoyed tea in silver teapots, the "below stairs" party with music hall songs and colorful expressions provided plenty of opportunities for merriment. Get a glimpse of real "high tea" as well as lively escapades the parlor may have enjoyed when not on duty!
Cost is $25. Seating is limited. Tickets must be purchased in advance. Call 717-624-6240 for more info.
